Boating- the best in the world -but

Oceanside:  Deep Water is 5-6 miles from shore past the barrier reef.  Outside the reef is the Gulf Stream a northward flow at 2-5 knots.  If you break down, in one day you can be off Fort Lauderdale, in a week off  the Carolinas and soon on your way to Africa. Inside the reef are numerous patch reefs and coral heads.  Carry a chart and a radio on your boat, and know how to use them!

Bayside:  Shallow water is everywhere. There is very little tide.  If you run aground, waiting for high water is waiting for a high west wind or heavy rain up north.  It's easy to get lost out there where every island looks the same.  Again, cary a chart and a radio on your boat and know how to use them!  Take a Safe Boating Class with the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.  See the link on the home page.

Access to Ocean or Bay or both?

Local bridge too low for your vessel?

Canal system depth and egress adequate for your vessel?

Canal width and turn arounds adequate?

Is canal blocked?

Community dock or boat ramp?

Easy access to dock, davits, etc.

Fishing - what I do!

Many years ago, when we came to the Keys on winter vacation, we would dive all day. But, after you live here a few years your blood gets thinner and 75 degrees starts feeling cold in the winter.
